Founded in 2005 by the King Car Group in Yilan County, Taiwan, Kavalan Distillery has swiftly become a prominent name in the global whisky industry. Named after the indigenous Kavalan tribe, the distillery benefits from Taiwan's subtropical climate, ideal for whisky maturation due to high humidity and temperature variations.

Kavalan adheres to traditional Scottish whisky-making techniques, using local barley and water sourced from on-site wells. Their distillation process employs copper pot stills from Scotland, ensuring precise control over the whisky's character. Maturation occurs in various casks, including American oak, sherry, and wine casks, taking advantage of Taiwan's climate to accelerate aging and develop unique flavours.

The distillery boasts a diverse range of whiskies, from core expressions like Kavalan Classic and Solist series to limited editions and single cask bottlings. These offerings showcase innovative cask finishes and distinct flavour profiles that have garnered international acclaim.

The Kavalan Rum Cask Solist, bottled for 2024 Luna New Year, marries Kavalan’s much renowned single malt whisky with rum casks to produce a sensational single cask expression. It comes in a gift set with a bonus 50ml sample of Kavalan Port Cask Solist in a wonderfully presented gift box featuring pot stills, the Taiwanese countryside being overlooked by a dragon.
The single cask whisky was bottled at 50% alc/vol.

Our Tasting Notes

Nose: Honey and treacle, citrus and lots of vanilla and a lighter peppery note.

Palate: Bold and viscous full of tropical fruit sweetness, lighter layers of spice with a later wave of vanilla and toffee.

Finish: Medium finish of tropical fruit and vanilla.
