Whipper Snapper Distillery, situated in Perth, Western Australia, boasts a captivating background steeped in passion, innovation, and a dedication to crafting high-quality spirits. Founded in 2014 by Alasdair Malloch and Jimmy McKeown, Whipper Snapper has swiftly made its mark in the Australian spirits industry.

Founding Story: The genesis of Whipper Snapper began when founders Alasdair and Jimmy stumbled upon a run-down building in East Perth, which would later house the distillery. Despite the challenges posed by the building's condition, their shared vision and determination spurred them on.

Upshot is Whipper Snapper’s first whiskey and a tribute to all their hard work, passion and dedication. Proudly sourcing 100% West Australian Grains: 80% corn, 10% malted barley and 10% wheat. Craft distilled and single barrel released. Upshot is our modern version of a well-rounded Australian whiskey, great for the novice whiskey drinker to the discerning. Uniquely smooth and inviting, and carefully aged in virgin southern white oak in Perth’s Mediterranean climate. Perfect for enjoying across seasons and in good company.

Inspired by the Whipper Snapper teams connection to the Western Australian Wheatbelt and their good mates who farm there. This Wheatbelt Series showcases the heritage of our humble local farmers and the provenance of their premium grain.

Since starting the distillery in 2013, the team have been planning to craft a single malt whiskey and now, the wait is over! After many years of planning, trials and tribulations, they have created a recipe that will stand the test of time and uphold the true Whipper Snapper standards. Their trademark DNA is carried through from the award-winning Ex-Upshot whiskey barrels, bringing you the first signature Whipper Snapper – Single Malt Whiskey.

Whipper Snapper are proud to produce local, quality products and, with exceptional grains farmed across the Nyoongar boodja (Wheatbelt) region, it was an easy decision for them to continually support the farming families in their own backyard. A uniquely audacious approach to an Australian single malt, they have used a premium barley variety, known as Spartacus. Grown within this region, and malted locally in Perth, this variety of grain is a proven gladiator within the agricultural community.

From farm to ferment; they use open-top fermentation that allows for a warmer fermentation, meaning more fruit-forward characters and depth in esters are derived from the grain.

They use a unique distilling style that works in line with their recipe, building trademark quality and flavour. Their hybrid column still is configured to run four plates, cutting hearts at 30% Alc/Vol. This gives them only the best hearts spirit, bringing out a savoury, fruity, oily single malt distillate at an overall average alcohol volume of 63%.

Patiently aged for four years in the Perth Mediterranean climate, this is a new era of single malt capturing the essence of Australia. As with all their products, it is perfect for enjoying across all seasons and in good company. Bottled at 48% Alc/Vol and a single barrel release.

This stunning coastline is an iconic part of the West Aussie lifestyle. The free feeling of vastness gives way to a relaxed culture spent by the beach with good people. West Coast Rum, is designed for those good times and crafted for the Australian lifestyle.

Molasses heavy, small batch and single barrel. Aged for three years in virgin American white oak. Matured in Perth’s Mediterranean climate. And as always, designed to be enjoyed across seasons and in good company. Bottled at 43% Alc/Vol and single barrel released.

Official Tasting Notes

Nose: Caramel, toasted butterscotch

Palate: Toasty and spicy, vanilla, rich caramel, toasted marshmallow

Finish: Dried fruits, apricot, dark chocolate

Our Cocktail Suggestion

RUM PINEAPPLE SOUR

30ml West Coast Rum
60ml Unsweetened Pineapple Juice
30ml Lemon Juice
15ml Spiced Sugar Syrup

Add all ingredients to a shaker
Dry shake then add ice and wet shake
Pour over fresh ice in a tumbler and garnish as you please
